What do I set my De-humidistat to when I leave?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions that our service technicians receive. To answer this question let’s first be clear on what a De-humidistat does. A De-humidistat is a device that limits the run time/cycle of an air conditioning system to only dehumidify the air in your home.

The device itself is usually mounted next to your thermostat and has a knob on it with numbers around the knob. These numbers represent the humidity level that you want to allow in your home, when you are away for long periods of time. Here in Florida we recommend that you set your de-humidistat to no more than 60% (humidity), your thermostat should be set to “cool” and no more than 80 degrees. At this set point the De-humidistat will only allow the thermostat and A/C system to come on when the humidity level exceeds 60%. IMPORTANT NOTE: when you return home you must set the De-humidistat to the “on” position for the system to return to normal operation.
