Is a Dehumidifier the right choice for your home?

Is a Dehumidifier the right choice for your home?

We all know that while living in Florida, you will endure high temperatures and humidity. But who would want the inside of their home to feel as humid and moist as it does outside? The answer is nobody! When you walk into your home after a long, hard day at work, you want to feel cool and refreshed. In addition to having your Air Conditioning system, we recommend also having a Dehumidifier. A Dehumidifier is most commonly used in homes as well as business offices. The purpose of a Dehumidifier is to remove the humidity that may have been built up in a room or office space. Depending upon how large of a unit you have, depends on how much humidity can be removed.

Dehumidifiers are very useful, especially when you live in the southern states with high humidity. When you start to feel hot, sweaty and humid, the first thing we normally do is turn down the Air Conditioner. Our minds are so used to the option of using the Air Conditioner as our cooling agent. But this is not the answer. The only thing that is causing you is more money. Every time that you are fluctuating the temperature on your thermostat, you are increasing the amount of your electricity bill. However, the real problem lies with the humidity, not the temperature.

There are a few options that you have when purchasing a Dehumidifier. If you live in a small apartment or studio, then a portable unit may be the best option for you. However, if you are residing in a larger home, then your most adequate option would be a central system. This system is designed to dehumidify large areas. This provides your home with odorless comfort, no humidity comfort, and coolness in every room.

The difference between a portable and central system is that with a portable unit, you are required to clean the unit often. The reason for this is that all of the dust particles and debris get caught in the system so you would need to clean it out. However, the issue with a smaller unit is that a portable unit may not provide you the proper comfort levels that you are looking for. As for a central unit, it will provide your whole entire house with the proper comfort levels that your Dehumidifier should.

A good thing to have along with your Air Conditioner thermostat is a Humidistat. This measures the humidity levels that are in your home. It is recommended to have the range level between 30 and 50. If you have it higher than 60, you may running the risk of having mold growth as well as increasing the amounts of dust mite populations. Once the dry air becomes hot, humid and moist, this adds extra pressure for the spores to start reacting and multiplying. This is not something that you want to happen inside the walls, drywall or fabrics in your home.
